Schedule of Events

The Division of Student Affairs is looking forward to hosting Family Weekend 2017! This is an excellent opportunity for families to spend time with their students, visit campus and fully take part in the Mizzou Student Experience. There are a multitude of events available on FridaySaturday, and Sunday for your family to enjoy! No formal agenda is set for Family Weekend, however, there are events for families with a variety of interests. We encourage you to attend as many events as possible and to enjoy a great weekend at MIZZOU!

*Events marked with an asterisk require purchasing tickets through the Family Weekend online registration system.  The schedule will be updated as activities are added, so please check back frequently!

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15

Family Weekend Check-In

Black and Gold Friday
8 a.m.–9 p.m., The Mizzou Store

SUPB Family Fun Fest
1–3 p.m., Kuhlman Court (North side of the MU Student Center)
After you check in at the Student Center, head out back and stop by the Family Fun Zone where the Student Union Programming Board will have games and free food for family members of all ages! You can also answer Mizzou trivia to win prizes!

Football Fridays with AASB
1-3 p.m., Carnahan Quad and Traditions Plaza
Join the Alumni Association Student Board (AASB) for Football Fridays to enjoy food, music and activities building up to the home football weekend.

Missouri School of Journalism Family Weekend Open House
1 p.m.–4 p.m., Room 100 A, Reynolds Journalism Institute
Families can stop in 100 A of Reynolds Journalism Institute to pick up a map to the various areas in the school that will be open. Parents can visit with faculty, see labs, and learn about projects going on at the school. Refreshments will be served. For a full schedule, go to our website: journalism.missouri.edu

Office of Service-Learning Open House
1 p.m.–5 p.m., 165 McReynolds Hall
Please come by and learn about the Office of Service-Learning and enjoy light refreshments. Service-learning at MU strives to develop civic, corporate, and social responsibility while enhancing the students’ personal growth and enriching the lives of people within our community. Mizzou Engineering Open House
4 p.m.– 6 p.m., W1006 Lafferre Hall, near Ketcham Auditorium
Come take a tour of the of the renovated Lafferre Hall space, meet other Engineering students and families, and mingle with our faculty and staff. Light refreshments will be provided.

Photos with Truman the Tiger
2:30 p.m.–4:30 p.m., MU Student Center
Truman has agreed to make a special appearance at Family Weekend. Stop by the registration area Friday afternoon for a chance to have your photo taken with Truman. There is no cost and the photo will be emailed to you. This opportunity is sponsored by MU Counseling Center in conjunction with the Office of Parent Relations.

Study Abroad Open House
3 p.m.– 5 p.m., International Center, N52 Memorial Union
Stop by the International Center to learn about the wide array of study abroad options available to MU students across all academic disciplines. Study abroad advisors will be available to answer questions. Refreshments will be provided.

Shabbat Services and Dinner at Hillel
6:30 p.m. at Mizzou Hillel, 1107 University Ave
Join Hillel and the Jewish Student Organization for an egalitarian, student-led Shabbat service followed by a homemade, kosher dinner. A great opportunity to connect and relax. For more information please visit www.mizzouhillel.com.

Shabbat Dinner
7 p.m. at the Chabad House, 313 E. Brandon Rd Columbia, MO 65203 (corner of S. Providence Rd)
Come join us for Chabad’s weekly Shabbat dinners. At Chabad anyone from freshman to Ph.D. candidate is welcome. You will partake in an intimate and elegant dinner where we will eat, meet new Jewish friends and celebrate Shabbat in a warm and enjoyable manner. *Comedy Show: Buzz Sutherland
7 p.m. Jesse Auditorium
Bring your guests and join comedian Buzz Sutherland as he opens up Family Weekend with some great laughs. Cost is $5 for MU Students and $10 for the general public. Weekend Movie: Despicable Me 3
Shows at: 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., Wrench Auditorium, Memorial Student Union
Gru reunites with his twin brother to take on bad guy Balthazar Bratt, and prevent him from taking over the world. Tickets are $1 for MU Students and $2 for guests, and are available at the door. Family Weekend: Mizzou on the Plaza
8 p.m.– 10 p.m., Traditions Plaza at Carnahan Quad (Rain Site: MU Student Center)
Show off Mizzou to your family! Enjoy lots of Mizzou treats, activities, a photo booth and more! This event is free and open to the general public. Visit stufftodo.missouri.edu for more information. CAFNR Continental Breakfast for CAFNR Students and Families
8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., Agriculture Building and Anheuser-Busch Natural Resources Building
Visit with faculty, advisors, and student ambassadors while enjoying a continental breakfast of bagels and pastries. Learn about the many educational opportunities available to students in our college and at Mizzou. Please RSVP online by September 8th - cafnralumni.com/familyweekend2017.

School of Nursing Open House
8:30 a.m.–10:30 a.m., Sinclair School of Nursing Building
The building will be open for tours and faculty will be available to meet parents and family members. There will also be breakfast foods and door prizes!

School of Health Professions Annual Pancake Breakfast
9 a.m.–11 a.m., Lewis Hall Lobby
School of Health Professions students and their families are invited to join the Dean for the annual SHP Family Weekend Pancake Breakfast. SHP faculty and staff will be serving pancakes, sausage and fruit. This event is free.

Study Abroad 101 for Parents
10 a.m.–11 a.m., 2501 Student Center (Leadership Auditorium)
Do you have a student interested in studying abroad? Come and learn more about the programs MU offers, the planning process, health and safety abroad, costs, scholarships, academic credit, and more! Coffee and light breakfast snacks will be served.

Saturday Morning Science
10:30 a.m. - Noon, Monsanto Auditorium, Bond Life Sciences Center
Dr. Michael Stambaugh, Associate Research Professor, School of Natural Resources will speak on the topic "Decoding stories of trees with tree rings." Trees are storytellers. They hold detailed information of the past in their rings and wood structure. Dr. Stambaugh will describe scientific field of dendrochronology and discuss how tree-rings apply to archaeology, climatology, forensics, and more! No science background is required, only enthusiasm for and an interest in science. The talks are free and open to the public. Coffee and a light breakfast are provided.

*Family Weekend Climb
10:00 a.m. - Noon, Venture Out Complex, location details at ventureout.missouri.edu/location
Come out to climb Come out to climb at Venture Out before the game. Venture Out is designed to be fun and safe for climbers of all abilities. Never climbed before? Come learn how! Experienced climber? Check out the challenges we have to offer. Cost is $15 per climber. Ages 6 and up only.

*Family Weekend Lunch
11:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., Rollins and Plaza 900 Dining Halls
Join us for a special celebration in a location your student enjoys every day! Guest servers and lots of black and gold will provide a festive atmosphere for fans preparing to cheer on the Tigers! Pre-paid tickets are encouraged and available through Family Weekend registration. Sponsored by Campus Dining Services.

Chancellor's Open House
11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Chancellor's Residence, Francis Quadrangle
Chancellor Alexander Cartwright and his wife Melinda Cartwright invite students and their families to an open house at The Residence on Francis Quadrangle, the oldest building on the oldest public university west of the Mississippi River. Admission is free. Sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs.

Mizzou Engineering Competition Teams
1 p.m-3 p.m., Lafferre Hall South parking lot
See what all the hype is about with Mizzou Engineering Competition teams. Come cool off with some free ice cream and check out the Mizzou Engineering Competition Teams!

Defoe-Graham, Johnston, Wolpers, and Hawthorn/Galena/Dogwood Halls
9 a.m.–10 a.m.
Your student’s staff and Hall Government officers are teaming up to make this a weekend to remember! Family and friends are encouraged to drop by the front desk for a light breakfast (while supplies last) and an opportunity to leave an encouraging note for your student. These cards will be delivered to your student by hall staff later in the semester. We hope to see you there!

Hatch, College Ave., Hudson and Gillett Halls
9 a.m-10 a.m.
Students and families are invited to attend a refreshments and pastry reception in the lobby of their hall. This will be an opportunity for the students to show off the community and for parents to interact hall leadership and staff.

Mark Twain Hall & Honors College
11 a.m.- Noon
Enjoy brunch with us. Residents of Mark Twain and guests can experience brunch in Mark Twain Hall. This will be an opportunity for the students to show off the community and for parents to interact with faculty and staff. Sponsored in collaboration with the Honors College.

Brooks, North /South and New Halls
1 p.m. -3p.m
Family and friends are encouraged to come by with their student to our front desks and lobby areas for light refreshments and an opportunity to leave an encouraging note for their student. Stationery will be provided and notes will be delivered one week later to the student’s mailbox by hall staff. We hope to see you there!

Gateway Hall
1 p.m.- 3p.m
Family and friends are encouraged to drop by the front desks for light refreshments, and an opportunity to leave an encouraging note for their student. Your student’s CA/LA/PAs and Hall Government officers are teaming up to make this a weekend to remember. Stationery will be provided and notes will be delivered one week later to the student’s mailbox by hall staff. We hope to see you there!

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 17

*Sunday Breakfast 
9 a.m. Stotler Lounge, Memorial Student Union
Leadership from the Division of Student Affairs extend a special invitation to parents and students for Sunday breakfast. Wrap up your Mizzou weekend with great food and conversation while you learn more about the Mizzou student experience. Cost is $20, seating is limited; open to families who pre-registered.

*MIZ Legacy Brunch
10:30 a.m.–12 p.m., Reynolds Alumni Center
Registration Opens August 7th. RSVP at www.mizzou.com/legacybrunch2017. The Mizzou Alumni Association hosts this annual brunch celebrating our incoming legacy students and their families. This is free for current students, $5 for Mizzou Alumni Association Members, and $10 for non-members and guests. Space is limited and you are encouraged to register early. Truman will be onsite and available for family photos. Be sure to wear your black and gold!

Catholic Student Association Family Weekend Masses
9 a.m. and 11 a.m., St. Thomas More Newman Center, 602 Turner Ave (corner of Turner and Tiger, across from the Business School)
Join the St. Thomas More Newman Center community for Mass with a blessing for all visiting families and stay for a meet-and-greet reception! Contact JoAnn Shull (joann.shull@comonewman.org), Development Director, for more information.

*Catholic Student Association Family Weekend "Taste of Columbia” Lunch
Following the 11 a.m. Mass, enjoy a "Taste of Columbia" lunch featuring foods from local eateries upstairs in the Multipurpose Room. RSVPs are required at: comonewman.regfox.com/mu-family-weekend-luncheon. Contact JoAnn Shull (joann@comonewman.org), Development Director, for more information.

College of Human Environmental Sciences Scholarship and Honors Convocation
2:00-3:30 p.m, Stotler Lounge, Memorial Union
The College of Human Environmental Sciences will recognize all students who have received scholarships throughout the year as well as invite the donors of those scholarships to allow them the chance to be recognized and potentially
meet their scholarship recipient. Students are encouraged to invite their families
to attend and celebrate their achievements with them at this event.

Mizzou Soccer vs. Albany

Admission is free for students, $5 for adults, and $3 for youth/senior
